Who We Are

The State Library of Western Australia Foundation was created in 2009 and endeavours to enrich the lives of Western Australians by increasing access to information resources while collecting and preserving our social heritage for current and future generations.

The Foundation is focused on fostering partnerships to create support for the work of the State Library of Western Australia in making information accessible and to both manage and create projects that enhance Western Australia as a "literate State".

During the 2010-11 financial year, the State Library WA continued to be the major sponsor of the State Library of WA Foundation both in-kind (housing the Foundation) and underwriting the staff and operational costs. As a start-up the Foundation has progressed really well with a total of $1.2 million raised in-kind and cash for projects to support the work of the State Library 18 months after the launch. In February

2011 the first philanthropic grant was received from the McCusker Foundation for National Year of Reading 2012. In March a grant from Lotterywest was awarded to support "Our Page in History" community history portal and in May the Sidney Myer Foundation granted project management funds for National Year of Reading.

Major Sponsorship for a second project "Spelling Bee" was raised from Kinetic Education and The West Australian newspaper - these sponsorships came to more than double the sponsorship dollars raised nationally the year before.

In November 2010 the Foundation won three Museum Australia Design Awards including best Fundraising appeal. The Foundation continues to be a leader in the sector with a series of ‘firsts' such as being the first Library Foundation to:

  • To accept online donations:
  • To have formal Codicil and Bequest documents available online
  • Run an In-Memorial Campaign for the Kay Poustie Scholarship and
  • Have our own website site and separate URL with E-commerce capability.
